Most teachers are pretty clear about what they’re looking for in your paper.

Using APA format for research paper writing

Start with the correct spacing and page size. APA format calls for 8.5” by 11” for standard printers, with 1” margins on all sides of the page. If your teacher has not specified a font to use, then use one that’s very readable and clear to see. It’s recommended that you choose Times New Roman in 12 pt.

The header of each page, or running head, should have the title of your paper in all caps on the left side of the header. Make sure, if you have a long title that you shorten it to 50 characters or less, including any spaces or punctuation.

APA format for sections of your paper

Usually a title page comes first in any research assignment like this. Your title page should have centered the title of your paper, your name, the name of your class and/or university. Sometimes the instructor or teacher wants their name to be on this page as well, so you’ll have to check with the instructions you were given.

Writing an abstract comes next. It should have simply the word Abstract centered as the title without any bold or other formatting. Then, write the abstract—which is a summary of your source points. Do not indent or separate paragraphs for this. You can include questions, methods of research, your conclusions and any other thoughts on your project.
